ELEMENTS
review by Sammy Horner
in Cross Rhythms, February 1997

"...Since her last disc Maggi has studied for a degree in theology, plus continued touring. I suspect that is why it has taken so long to get to us. Here we find a class act bettered...  a sparkling disc of Maggi's songs mixing acoustic and electric guitars, drum machines/loops and some percussion together with didgeridoo and fine harmonies. The beauty of Dawn's writing is that she manages to say those old truths in a simple and new way and that her songs could easily be sung without the aid of instruments...a rare gift. You could call much of her work contemporary liturgy, it could easily be spoken as well as sung. Maggi's voice has matured as well...she delivers the vocals with fresh confidence, clarity and beauty. Short of a proposal of marriage, it's hard to explain how much I appreciate this lady's music. If worship is the lost gem of the church, Maggi Dawn continues to bring us diamonds and pearls. If you don't have to queue to buy this...there ain't no justice."
