still small voice

I love the quote. That sentiment has been my motivation for blogwalking...

I'm sorry, but that quote really annoys me. Of course you don't find "that small voice" in the middle of a church service while the congregation is engaged in a rousing praise hymn. Worship services in a synagogue or other place of worship (like a church or a mosque) generally are for engagement with God as part of a community. They're not the only place where one engages with God. It's not either-or. A full religious life, I believe, for most people, includes worship of many different types and walks in gardens - like that beautiful Robinson garden you're so lucky to have, Maggi.

Maggi, in your article in the recent "Christian Century" you quoted a professor who said he now believes in fewer things more deeply. I liked that a lot. As I move to retirement from full-time religion teaching, this too is my experience. Can you give me the source of the quote, if indeed it is in print somewhere?
Thank you,

Dear Prof Tom, it wasn't a quote as such, it was a private conversation I had. You're welcome to quote me from the article if you wish.
