Evangelical leader attacks 'aggressive' opposition to SORs
"The proposed SORs are an opportunity for Christians to demonstrate the love and grace of Christ. However, vociferous opposition, a lack of constructive dialogue, and threats of civil disobedience mean that the Church is in danger of sounding homophobic and is doing little to give itself a credible voice."
I'm delighted that he has said this. I think the majority of Christians are reacting to this sensibly, and perhaps the regulations aren't perfect. But there is a serious danger that Christian protests about them will be misunderstood and hi-jacked, and it takes someone on the other side of the altar (as it were) to say so. Moreover, with the news that more than fifty Anglican priests have entered civil partnerships in the year since they were introduced, few elements of the Church can afford to take an "us" and "them" attitude, whatever they might think about homosexuality in general.
I await your book with interest, Maggi!

Maggi
Thanks for posting the comment. The debate continues but I have received overwhelming support from right across the Christian spectrum.
How do we address the issues of difference with not just those who are homosexual, but those of other faith? What shared values do we have? How do we work together for social and community transformation without losing our distinctive identities? Check it ou at www.buildingabetterworld.typepad.com.
Would be great to talk about this and many other things.
