It's an annoying kind of thing too: I love teaching but universities etc look for academics with research pedigrees while their students languish for want of good 'learning envirnoment creators' ...! Gissa job.

I've just found that nothing gets in the way of learning quite like teaching! A while ago I found that my students all learned more when I stopped teaching ..
so I gave up teaching and tried to find other ways of helping them be able to do more ..
..they don't always love me for it! :-)
I'm beginning to wonder if some of the re-created monastic traditions are finding the same about being a disciple?

I know what you mean. I used to spend a lot of time planning and designing lessons. The teacher next door gave students workbooks to do on their own and their test scores were better. Go figure.
